Becoming Sensitive to Hearing God
De 4:10 [Specially] the day that thou stoodest before the
LORD thy God in Horeb, when the LORD said unto me, Gather
me the people together, and I will make them hear my
words, that they may learn to fear me all the days that
they shall live upon the earth, and [that] they may teach
their children.
De 4:11 And ye came near and stood under the mountain;
and the mountain burned with fire unto the midst of
heaven, with darkness, clouds, and thick darkness.
12 And the LORD spake unto you out of the midst of the
fire: ye heard the voice of the words, but saw no
similitude; only [ye heard] a voice.
What a sound this must have been; for the people to come
and Hear the VOICE of GOD. It is written that there were
fire, and darkness, clouds and thick darkness. It almost
sounds like a Movie you see at the theater. But this is
how it happened according to the Word of God. Wouldn't it
be nice to go to a certain place and hear God's voice so
we might know what HE wants from us and what He thinks of
us and just to hear Him tell us how He loves us? In this
teaching we will learn that it is possible to hear from
God as these people heard from God. He is not a respect of
persons. He does not give promises to some that He
wouldn't to others. God speaks to me and to you and to as
many as will hear His voice. So let us learn how to become
sensitive to His voice.
Here are Seven Conditions that God brings His Children, to
hear His Voice.
1] ASSEMBLING TOGETHER
First; Lets look at the condition that these people were
in. God ordered Moses to gather the people together. This
is important; although God does and will speak to each
individual on a personal level; He will not unless you are
part of the Body of Christ.
Ac 4:31 And when they had prayed, the place was shaken
where they were assembled together; and they were all
filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God
with boldness.
It is the Spirit of God which Speaks to us Christians. The
Holy Spirit will anoint a person to preach, teach,
prophesy, speak in tongues with interpretation for the
exhortation of the Church. His Word tells us where two or
three or gathered together, He is in the midts of them.
Why is it important that God desires to bring us together?
It all goes back to LOVE; God does not respect one person
over another, He does not give to one person that He would
not to another, He does not use one person that He would
not another. A man who stands by himself and tries to walk
this Christian life by himself can become built up in
pride. This has happened to many ministers in the pass. It
all goes back to being selfish. They get it in their minds
that the only person that God speaks to is them. But that
is very far from the truth. When Christians or the BODY of
CHRIST come together in the name of the LORD; then they
come to commune with CHRIST. And in this Communion The
Spirit of CHRIST will speak to each person . If your hand
is hurting because a bee stung it; it will respond to the
brain; then the brain will respond to the other body
parts. The brain will speak to the feet to go to the
medicine cabinet, then the brain will speak to the other
hand to take out the ointment and put it on the wound.
Then the brain will speak to the mouth, ears and feet and
hands to call the doctor and make an appointment. All
parts are needed to do the task, and it is the brain that
is in control of it all. It is the brain that speaks to
each part of what is needed to get done.
Well JESUS is the head of the body of CHRIST. 1Co 11:3 But
I would have you know, that the head of every man is
Christ. He does the work that the brain does in our
natural bodies. He speaks to each member in a personal way
on how to take care of HIS BODY, on how to keep HIS BODY
clean from sin, how to nourish HIS BODY with the WORD of
GOD and how to give first aid to those members of the body
that satan has attacked; just like the brain did for the
bee sting, but instead of using ointment of this world He
uses the ointment of the HOLY SPIRIT. This is why it is
very important for the church to come together much that
each member might hear from GOD.
Now part of coming together is for praise and worship.
Psalms 22:3 But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest
the praises of Israel.
God inhabits the praises of His people, and where He is,
His Word is there also to speak to us. Assembling together
goes together with praise and worship.
Acts 2:46 And they, continuing daily with one accord in
the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did
eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart,
Acts 2:47 Praising God, and having favour with all the
people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as
should be saved.
Again this verse goes on to say that the Church was not
just doing nothing when they were coming together, but it
goes on and tells us that they were in prayer, and
worshipping the Lord.
2] DENYING FLESH
Secondly; it is written that they were gathered at MOUNT
HOREB. Just about every Word or Name in the scriptures are
symbolic to God's Word. Here HOREB means in the HEBREW:
Horeb=dried up land.Soletude,desert,desruction,To
parch,kill,desolate,Also called Mount Sinai.
Before God can speak to anyone, they must be dead to the
flesh. Mount Horeb represents the CROSS that every
believer must bear themselves. God is a Spirit, and
because of that HE cannot communicate with flesh. The Holy
Spirit can only deal with Spiritual things of God. Flesh
cannot understand anything that is spiritual. That is why
people don't get saved the first time that the BIBLE is
PREACHED to them the first time. Just like myself; it was
not until the HOLY SPIRIT revealed to me what was the will
of God that I seen the truth.
John 12:24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn
of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone:
but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit. And the
fruits come by the HOLY Spirit, the flesh cannot produce
the fruits , it is the fruits of the Holy Spirit.
Genesis 1:26 And God said, Let us make man in our image,
after our likeness: And let them have dominion over the
fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over
the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every
creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
Genesis 1:27 So God created man in his own image, in the
image of God created he him; male and female created he
them.
John 4:24 God is a Spirit: And they that worship him must
worship him in spirit and in truth.
So it is written that God created man in His own image.
What is the image of God? Well, John 4:24 tells us that
God is a Spirit, and not a fleshly being. When God created
man; man did not have a body at that time. Lets look at
the scriptures.
Genesis 2:7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the
ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life;
and man became a living soul.
Now the word create and the word formed has two different
meanings. As the word create, means; to make from nothing,
choose, to be produced. Different from the word formed,
which means through the squeezing into shape, potter,
earthen. These scriptures point out that man was in
existence before he had a body of flesh, so that means he
must have been a spirit like God is a Spirit.
So man must crucify this outer shell which is the flesh;
and the flesh is to be carnally minded; that his inner man
which is spirit can be increased in his life. And through
this he can begin to have that relationship with his
Father from heaven through Jesus Christ.
Jesus has a close relationship with His Father from
Heaven; and through Him we also can have that same
fellowship with the Father where we commune with Him day
and night.
John 11:41 Then they took away the stone from the place
where the dead was laid. And Jesus lifted up his eyes, and
said, Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me.
John 11:42 And I knew that thou hearest me always: But
because of the people which stand by I said it, that they
may believe that thou hast sent me.
In these scriptures, the Lord Jesus makes a powerful
statement; He says that He knows that the Father from
Heaven hears Him always. Because Jesus is not and cannot
be led by the flesh but by the Holy Spirit, and that is
why this is so. As Christians, Children of God through
faith in Jesus and His message, we can have the same
faith and confidence. His Spirit, the same Holy Spirit
that was in Jesus is now in the church today, and if a
person is led by the Spirit then we have access to God to
speak to Him and to hear from Him.
3] Meditating upon God's Word
Third; When Israel left Egypt and wandered into the
wilderness for forty years; the only substance that God
would feed them with was manna from heaven. As mentioned
before, this is part of the crucifying the flesh part, but
it also represents something more. The Manna that fell
from Heaven is a symbol of the WORD of GOD or JESUS
CHRIST.
John 6:31 Our fathers did eat manna in the desert; as it
is written, He gave them bread from heaven to eat.
John 6:32 Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say
unto you, Moses gave you not that bread from heaven; but
my Father giveth you the true bread from heaven.
John 6:33 For the bread of God is he which cometh down
from heaven, and giveth life unto the world.
John 6:34 Then said they unto him, Lord, evermore give us
this bread.
John 6:35 And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of
life: He that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that
believeth on me shall never thirst.
So this was another condition that God put Israel in
before He spoke to them from the Mountain. They were to
eat this and nothing else. They were to sustain from all
food but the manna that God had gave them from heaven.
Psalms 119:148 Mine eyes prevent the night watches, that I
might meditate in thy word.
Psalms 119:149 Hear my voice according unto thy
lovingkindness: O LORD, quicken me according to thy
judgment.
Psalms 119:150 They draw nigh that follow after mischief:
they are far from thy law.
Psalms 119:151 Thou art near, O LORD; and all thy
commandments are truth.
The Word MEDITATE here means: To put forth, muse,
commune, speak, complain, ponder, sing: The four verses go
together; David the Psalmist speaks that as long as he
meditates on the Word of God, first that God hears him
according to verse 149. And in verse 151 he writes; That
the Lord is near, and where the Lord is; His voice is
heard. When you come into the presence of the Lord, His
will is made known unto you.
Hebrews 1:1 God, who at sundry times and in divers manners
spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets,
Hebrews 1:2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his
Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom
also he made the worlds;
And His Son is Jesus Christ, who is the Word of God made
flesh, as written in John chapter1.
1 John 4:4 Ye are of God, little children, and have
overcome them: Because greater is he that is in you, than
he that is in the world.
1 John 4:5 They are of the world: Therefore speak they of
the world, and the world heareth them.
1 John 4:6 We are of God: He that knoweth God heareth us;
he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the
spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.
4] Draw Near God
In Deuteronomy 4:11 It begins with; "And ye came near".
For us to hear God we must draw near to Him. In order for
Iserael to hear God they had to come near the mountain.
First, they had to purify themselves. They had to wash
with water and stay from all evil in order for them to be
able to come close to the mount to hear from God. Psalms
73:27-28, "For, lo, they that are far from thee shall
perish: thou hast destroyed all them that go a whoring
from thee. But it is good for me to draw near to God: I
have put my trust in the Lord GOD, that I may declare all
thy works." Jesus Christ is that Mountain that we come to
to hear God. Through faith in Him, we are clensed by the
Blood that was shed in Calvery. But the way we are
faithful to Jesus is to allow Him to be our Lord. We must
deny our flesh, pick up our cross and follow Jesus. We
must repent from all evil before we are entitled to hear
from God. Hebrews 10:22 Let us draw near with a true heart
in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled
from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure
water. God will not speak to an unclean vessel, and the
only way we can be clean is through the blood of the Lamb
of God. And the only way to receive His blood is to come
to His cross.
5] Humility
It is next written in Deuteronomy 4:"that they stood under
the mountain". This represents Humility. We must come to
God humbled. We must understand that we are nothing
without God. When we consider His ways and His greatness
and His Holiness we must be nothing but humble. The
Psalmist wrote in Psalms 34:2 My soul shall make her boast
in the LORD: The humble shall hear thereof, and be glad.
This is the reason why so many cannot receive from God.
They must be their own god, and will not listen to no one
else, not even God's Word. The Word tells us that in the
day of judgment all will kneel before Jesus. No man will
be able to stand in such a place of Holiness. But as far
as myself I choose to do it now. For during this terrible
day of judgment it will be too late for repentance. I bow
at the feet of my Savior this day. How do we humble
ourselves to God you may ask? By surrendering all to Him.
We no longer walk after our own desires nor after our own
ways but we say unto God "Not mine, but Thou will be
done". We allow Him to be our God and not self.
6] Withstanding the Fiery Trials
This next text is a hard one to follow. But in order for
us to hear from God we must allow it. It is written next
in Deuteronomy 4:12 And the LORD spake unto you out of the
midst of the fire: He spoke to the people out of the fire.
Sometimes we must get into the fire to hear the voice of
God. 1 Peter 4:12-14, "Beloved, think it not strange
concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though
some strange thing happened unto you: But rejoice,
inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that,
when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with
exceeding joy. If ye be reproached for the name of
Christ, happy are ye; for the spirit of glory and of God
resteth upon you: On their part he is evil spoken of, but
on your part he is glorified." Peter wrote that the fire
that we go through are the trials that we must partake of.
It is only through the trials do we have communion with
Christ. It is only through the fiery trials do we go from
faith to faith and glory to glory. Remember the story of
Shadrach, Mechach, and Ebendigo in the Book of Daniel. How
they were thrown into the fiery furnace because they
refused to bow down to the king who wanted to be as god.
It was in this fiery furnace that they came in contact
with Jesus Himself. For the king said himself, that there
was a fourth man in the furnace walking with them and that
He looked like the Son of God. Do not fret when the trials
come your way; matter of a fact we should welcome them
with open arms. You will pull through the fiery trials as
long as you keep your eyes on Jesus. This is the place
that you will hear God speak to you the most. I believe it
is because when we believe we are in trouble we tend to
seek the face of God more with fervency and much tears so
that He will rescue us out of trouble. And He is faithful
to do such a thing as that.
7] Hearing By Faith & Not By Sight
Last, we read in Deuteronomy 4:ye heard the voice of the
words, but saw no similitude; only ye heard a voice. Human
beings have trouble believing things that cannot be seen.
I think it is because we are evil and untrustworthy to
each other. Think about it, how many people you know that
are fully trustworthy. Will you put your life within their
hands. I am sure it is not many. And those you do know to
be this is mostly family I am sure. And then again maybe
not. Humans want to see evidence of that which they are
believing for. But God wants us to put our full trust in
Him. Without faith you cannot please God. It is a lack of
love. All that Iserael heard was the voice of God. They
did not see anything. We have the Word of God with us
today. We must have faith in it and not in the things that
we see around us. 2 Corinthians 5:7 (For we walk by faith,
not by sight). Hebrews 11:1, "Now faith is the substance
of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." God
has chosen our walk with Him to be this way so that we can
prove our love to Him by putting our full trust in Him. It
could not be a good marriage if a spouse could not trust
the other. I am sure that is the reason why many marriages
have ended in divorce. God has given us His Word, and He
wants us to believe Him and know that every promise given
will come to past. It might not come in the timing that we
think is best for us. But God knows best. And if we do
walk after the things that we see, then it wouldn't be
faith. I so desire to please my God. And if it is to trust
in Him and believe in His Word and His Word alone then let
it be so. God has proven to me more that I can ever put on
this page, of His Word being true. I will not fight God. I
have come to a place of rest in Him. And that can only
come when you truly have Faith in His Word (Jesus).
Oh beloved reader I pray that you can come to a place
where you hear the voice of God. You can know His perfect
will for your life and never take a wrong turn. In hearing
His voice faith will be birthed in you because faith
cometh by hearing and hearing by the Word of God. I hope
this lesson has helped you in your walk my friend. Please
allow us to help you if needed. Contact us and let us pray
with you and believe with you for all that God has for
you.
